From the NY Times. Classic.

To the Editor:

Re "College Board Announces an Overhaul for the SAT" (news article, June 28):

Revising is to SAT as

(a) reformulating is to Coke

(b) repackaging is to Betamax

(c) renaming is to Philip Morris

(d) repainting is to Pinto.

hit The Top last night; two dj's from germany and a rapper from lord knows where. some of the best music i've heard in the last few years. they owned the crowd. marty & i bought there cd's, but unfortunately the rapper (who totally put it over the top) isn't normally part of their act.

went to bohemia w/ ando, jenny and marty last night. nice club, young crowd, hip-hop (blech) music... a bit too glam (esp on the male side) for my taste & not worth $10 cover... but a good night all and all

==> 'TOOTH PHONE'

Engineers in the UK say they've developed a tooth implant that incorporates
a tiny vibrator and a radio wave receiver, and is capable of functioning
like a tooth-based cell phone. The implant does not yet have its own
microchip installed, but inventors James Auger and Jimmy Loizeau say the
technology has been tested, and that a fully functional phone is feasible.
Sound, received as a digital radio signal, would be transferred to the
inner ear by bone resonance, enabling information to be received anywhere
and at any time, with no one else the wiser. The invention raises the
possibility of financial traders receiving the latest stock market updates
while taking in a movie, or politicians receiving a secret briefing on the
issues while being quizzed by reporters.

more catchup

- nikki's bday party down in LA was a lot of fun! good crowd of people, beer, bbq, and sunshine. nice to spend a long weekend with friends.

- can't wait to see julie & kim's marathon pictures!

- netflix (and looksmart) called (emailed) back: overqualified for the role. both have me tucked away in case something more senior opens up. job situation is getting depressing.

- heard/saw my friend debi sing at voodoo lounge down in the mission last night; that girl can wail! did it through "big bear music" (or big blue music?!), a group that does voice/instrument training, matches people up and throws shows at various venues so participants get their first/early on-stage gigs. very cool.

alright, a little catch up is due...

- birthday party... what i remember of it, it was a blast. unfortunately somehow opie was put in charge of both refilling my glass of sangria (note to self: sangria is not koolaid) AND the camera. i'll be picking up the photographic evidence tonight from marty, who thankfully managed to keep my camera in sf... my credit card made it back down to la w/o me, lol

- had a killer interview w/ netflix yesterday. pretty junior position for me (sr. product mgr) and a 60M one-way drive. but damn, the people were smart and super friendly. perhaps if i get the job (more rounds of interviews to go) i can rent a room both in sj and sf so i can keep the party flavor. i can't do another 5 yrs in mountain view.

- carol called me out of the blue yesterday w/ an extra giants ticket. first time at pacbell park. we got crushed, but it was still a blast. most memorable moment... national anthem. we were standing at the concession stands while the singer was singing... NOT A DAMN PERSON TALKED OR EVEN MOVED, including our cashier. it was almost eerie to see how much more respectful people are now...

- heading down to la this weekend for nikki's surprise 30th bday. looking forward to some time in the sun.

- 10-20-70 fat-carb-protein (give or take) lifting diet is working out very well so far... hovering in the 175-177 range and feeling/looking much better.

mtg online launches 6/24

Xybernaut, a specialist in "wearable" PCs, is teaming up with Second Chance
Body Armor, the leading U.S. manufacturer of protective body gear, to
create high-tech body armor that incorporates computing capability.
"They've created a version of their body armor that is not only protecting
the individual but includes support and protection for the computing
device," says a Xybernaut spokesman. "It can stop a .44 Magnum round or a
9mm full-metal jacket, which covers a good portion of what you might face
if you're a soldier or a police officer on patrol. For somebody in a
tactical role, having a full PC equivalent that's body worn and gives you a
number of options for accessing the data can be a huge advantage." The body
suit originally was commissioned by the U.S. Army, which uses it for field
repair technicians and other noncombat positions, but military and police
officials have indicated interest in using the systems to feed intelligence
and other data to personnel in combat or patrol situations.
