About Tony Gentile

Tony Gentile is a software product development veteran with 20 years of experience developing commercially successful, award winning consumer and enterprise software solutions.

Most recently he was Chief Product Officer at BUZZMEDIA (now SpinMedia), a publisher of 40 Entertainment properties with 100MM monthly uniques (30MM US Comscore) and 400MM/monthly pageviews. At BUZZMEDIA he led the creation of the company’s first unified platform (and all end user features), from real time content ingestion and management, to editorial/publishing workflow, advertising solutions, video, UI and APIs across web, mobile web and iOS native apps. Sites on the platform experienced an average 30% increase in engagement in web PVPV, 150% increase in mobile PVPV and a 300% increase in video consumption, all while significantly reducing operating costs.

Prior to BUZZMEDIA he was SVP Product at Ask.com (a division of publicly traded IACI InterActive Corp), where he led the reinvention of the company’s business and product strategy, resulting in a doubling of Ask’s EBITDA in a three year period (after a prior run of five years of 30% YoY declines). This included development of a live-answer social Q&A community integrated into Ask’s search experience (now millions of members strong), development of Ask’s (award winning) first mobile application (Ask for iOS was promoted continuously by Apple in the App Store for 3 months, resulting in millions of downloads), and move to a hosted content and display advertising model (whose success recently culminated in Ask’s $300MM acquisition of About.com).
