I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but haven’t written anything. It’s interesting to think that Linux, has, in essence, moved the U.S. from a position of “controlling” the de facto global OS for end user machines (and a chunk of servers)… to having to share its source code in order to compete. Linux, for better or worse, has democratized core OS technologies globally, further lowering the U.S. technological superiority. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your POV…
